💡 GLOSSARY OF GROWTH
TECH — Growth Marketing is a strategy for rapidly scaling a business's user base and revenue through data-driven tactics and innovative experiments.
SOCIAL JUSTICE — Divestment refers to the act of withdrawing investments from industries, companies, or sectors that are considered harmful to society, the environment, or certain groups of people.
SELF-DEVELOPMENT — Default Mode Network is a network of brain regions that is active when a person is not focused on the outside world, and the brain is at wakeful rest, such as during daydreaming or mind-wandering.
💡 LESSON LEARNED
Ya’ll - last week I mistakenly sent you all an email that was supposed to be a blog post… I was mortified because it was a draft and had SO many mistakes. I figured, I better learn from this and have it never happen again. Instead of beating myself up about this like I normally would, I learned how to move on. Next time you make a mistake, I hope these steps help you:
Accept it. — This was the HARDEST thing for me to do any time I’ve ever made a mistake in my life. I’d always go back and forth thinking, “I should’ve done this, I should’ve done that, and then this wouldn’t have happened…”. But here’s the thing - you have no choice anymore. It happened, and there’s no undoing it. Instead of wasting your time replaying the scenario in your head, accept that it happened and figure out how to solve it.
Figure out what you can do right now. — Get this thought outta your head. What can you do right now to at least start fixing it? Should you journal? Talk to someone? Inform stakeholders right away? Last week, when I made that mistake, I decided one thing I could do was start writing the newsletter right away and focus on the next piece of communication I had with my subscribers instead of focusing on the fact that I had just sent you all a crappy draft of a blog post.
Implement a plan so this doesn’t happen again. — Once I had finished drafting the newsletter for this week, I immediately wrote out a really short checklist I would follow when writing a blog post. This included ensuring I unchecked “send to all subscribers” the next time I was ready to publish. I feel secure that implementing this small checklist will prevent me from making this mistake again. If you create a small workflow or plan and actually implement it enough, chances are you’ll be much less likely to repeat your mistake.
I was so embarrassed last week, especially considering I had sent out FOURTEEN editions of this newsletter and had yet to make this mistake. Anyways, you live, and hopefully, you learn. Forgive me for filling your inbox with crap (lol).
💡 F R E E B I E
I know I normally post downloadable freebies here, but I saw this one, and I thought some of you might like it. It’s a free workshop for leaders on conducting one-on-ones. Honestly, I’ve had some terrible one-on-ones with managers who clearly don’t know how to run these effectively, so I’m excited to attend this. Hopefully, the next time I do one with someone, I won’t run them like my former managers did!
