💡learnshiv newsletter - May 14th, 2024
Hi! Welcome to our 16th newsletter! 💡learnshiv is here to make learning easy for you, whether it’s tech, social justice, or self-improvement content. In this constantly changing world, the only way to future-proof yourself is diversification, and that’s what I’m here to help you do.
Here’s what we’re talking about in this week’s newsletter:
✏️ Defining: account-based marketing, the Prison Industrial Complex, and neuroplasticity
❓Four questions you should always ask your interviewer
🗣️ A free video course on how to become a six-figure writer
🎙️ Recapping a podcast on how to manifest your future using neuroscience
💡 GLOSSARY OF GROWTH
TECH — Account-Based Marketing is a highly personalized and strategic approach that focuses marketing and sales efforts on individual high-value accounts, aiming to foster long-term relationships and maximize return on investment.
SOCIAL JUSTICE — The Prison Industrial Complex refers to the overlapping interests of government and industry that use surveillance, policing, and imprisonment to solve economic, social, and political problems, often prioritizing profit and power over justice and rehabilitation.
SELF-DEVELOPMENT — Neuroplasticity is the brain's capacity to reorganize and form new neural connections throughout life, enabling neurons to adapt to injuries, diseases, and environmental changes.
💡 LESSON LEARNED
Here are the top four questions you should always ask the interviewer at the end of your interviews. After 50+ interviews last year, I found that these were the questions that interviewers were most impressed with AND the ones that were the most helpful to me when deciding if the role was right for me.
How will success be measured in this role? -- This demonstrates that you're already thinking about how to do your job well and that you want to see if they have the right systems in place to track your work.
What's a current project you're working on that you're excited about? -- This will tell you if they like their job, if they're actually interested in the work they're doing, and you can see if what they're working on is something you'll find interesting, too.
What is the current tech stack for someone in this role? -- People are always impressed when I ask this. This is important to know because (esp for Content Marketers) I need to know if you have what I need to do my job well, and I want to do my job well.
Is there a process in place for actionable feedback, and if so, how is progress tracked? -- I ask this because I've had terrible managers who don't know how to give feedback. This shows that I care about constructive criticism and learning from it. It also tells me if this person actually has experience being a good manager.
If you’re currently going through the interview process right now, I’m sending you good luck. Please reply to this email if I can be of any help!
💡 F R E E B I E
Here’s a FREE course on how to become a six-figure writer! It’s by Brandon Storey, who also has a wonderful newsletter on freelance copywriting and ghostwriting. Honestly, his content is also just good for anyone who wants to learn more about writing in general. If you check out this course, please let me know!
💡 LEARNSHIV CONTENT
Here’s a podcast recap from an episode of Big Brains. The episode was called How to Manifest Your Future Using Neuroscience, with James Doty.
Here are my three main takeaways:
Understanding Brain Networks Related to Manifestation:
The discussion reviews how specific brain networks, including the executive control network, salience network, and default mode network, play crucial roles in the process of manifestation. Understanding these networks helps actively engage them to manifest desires into realities, offering a scientific basis to what might often be seen as a purely psychological exercise.
The Role of Mindfulness and Intentionality:
Dr. Doty emphasizes the importance of mindfulness and being present as essential elements in manifestation. For self-development enthusiasts, this reinforces the concept that actively focusing on positive intentions and goals, rather than passively wishing for outcomes, can lead to more effective personal growth and the realization of objectives.
Practical Steps to Enhance Manifestation Abilities:
The episode offers actionable advice on harnessing the power of one’s brain for manifestation, such as engaging in mindfulness practices, aligning one's conscious desires with subconscious thought processes, and being aware of and reducing negative self-talk. These practical steps are vital for self-development, as they bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.
This episode encourages a proactive approach to personal development grounded in an understanding of neuroscience, which can significantly enhance the effectiveness of manifestation techniques. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Click below to listen.
